Antique Portuguese Asparagus Box with Removable Lid
This Portuguese ceramic asparagus box with a removable lid is among John Derian's trove of handpicked vintage & antique goods. Molded in the form of a bundled asparagus and rendered in soft greens and purples, this piece was likely produced in the tradition of 19th-century Portuguese majolica and may be attributed to, or inspired by, the workshop of Bordallo Pinheiro (1846–1905), one of Portugal’s most influential ceramicists. Pinheiro was celebrated for his playful, sculptural tableware rooted in natural forms, and asparagus motifs became a hallmark of his whimsical designs.
