This rendition of the Greek mythological God "Icarus," the son of the Master Craftsman “Daedalus" was created by John Pitre as an oil on canvas. Daedalus is known throughout Greek mythology as the creator of the Labyrinth. Icarus' father had constructed him wings built from feathers and wax to escape the city of Crete. Icarus ignored his father's instructions not to fly too close to the sun. The heat melted his wings and Icarus fell out of the sky into the sea where he drowned. This is the origin of saying "Don't fly too close to the sun."
