I designed the Soft Life Journal for Happily Selfish Black Women to share one of the most vital lessons I’ve learned. As a self-empowered black woman, full of strength and softness, I wholeheartedly reject the label of “Strong Black Woman” along with the toxicity that comes with it. Instead, I balance my fierce independence with deep rest and the support of those who love me. Owning my soft life means I never take on more than I can handle. I prioritize myself, treating my energy as a sacred resource. “Because I don’t feel like it” is always a valid reason to say “No” to people and things that don’t contribute to my happiness. I’ve stepped away from playing Superwoman for those who choose blame and self-victimization over taking action. I’ve been called selfish for this perspective, and I embrace that label. Being selfish isn’t negative; in fact, selfishness is essential for good health and happiness. The strong black woman archetype I was raised to embody often faces preventable s
