Winter’s Gentle Guardian

Oil on panel - 16” W x 21” H  Being captivated long ago by Theophile Steinlens “ Le Chat Noir” , this depiction of the cat in question is fascinating and fluffy while adorning a white coat of fur.  A sense of calm, eloquence and charm fills the interior that is set off by a winter evening’s sky. The statue of an innocent and curious boy gently cradles a young bird as if engaged in a silent conversation. It’s almost as if the statuesque topiaries in the landscape understand this loving scene. The cat almost takes the role of guardian for the calm and gentle mood of the room. Even the small bird along with the blue herons on the wall have nothing to fear.  All is clear and bright tonight.
