Acrylic on linen. Signed and dated on back by Julia. This piece was sold in an Art Auction Benefit, where 50% of the proceeds were donated to No Kid Hungry for COVID-19 Relief in April 2020. This piece the first of the West series. It has a lovely blue so dark it feels like the night sky. There is also a textural background behind the shapes, of the linen canvas and spotty rubbing of paint, showing through like the shadows of the ocean's surface. Sometimes when I reflect, I become very still, there is a heavy sphere of awareness, until an openness arrives. When I feel stillness, I feel this lightness and this weight. There is an exchange, between what is real and remembered. When I created the West series, I was living in a small Brooklyn apartment. I was reflecting back on the past decade I lived with my partner in California, first San Francisco with its cool ocean breezes then LA with its glorious sunlight.
