The Egyptian God of the underworld guardian and protector of the dead. Anubis is the Egyptian god of mummification and the afterlife as well as the patron god of lost souls and the helpless. By weighing the heart of a deceased person against Ma'at (or "truth"), who is represented as an ostrich feather, Anubis dictated the fate of souls. Souls heavier than a feather would be devoured by Ammit, and souls lighter than a feather would ascend to a heavenly existence. From Anubis we learn to live more compassionately and that our hearts be light as a feather.
