Corot traveled extensively, especially in Italy, where the light and scenery deeply influenced his art.He became a master of plein air painting, capturing natural light and atmosphere with a delicate, silvery palette. Though primarily a landscape painter, he also produced sensitive portraits and figure studies. Corot’s later works became softer and more poetic, inspiring the Barbizon School and earning him recognition as a precursor to the Impressionists. He was widely respected in his lifetime and generously supported younger artists. Today, Corot is celebrated as a key figure in 19th-century French art.
