Description: This 11” fabric and foam head is part of a series of sculptures by JUNNY®️ that explore the themes of race, gender, and identity. The head is made from a vibrant patchwork of upcycled fabrics, including African woven textile, Baule Cloth, Kente, ankara caged bird print, cowrie shells, beads. I am interested in using these heads to represent the different facets of my own identity as a black woman. I am also interested in exploring the ways in which African textiles and symbols can be used to represent strength, power, and beauty. JUNNY®️ is a multi-hyphenate artist who works in textiles, fiber, and writing. She is known for her fabric and foam heads, which she uses to explore themes of race, gender, and identity.
