Coastal Charm Door Knocker
Living in coastal New England, shell hunting is a way of life and we'll always be on the look out for the perfect shell. However, we nearly considered the quest complete when this beauty washed in to our lives: a large solid, oil bronzed door knocker sand cast from the most lovely weathervane sea scallop shell. Larger in size than a bay scallop, these are the large ruffled beauties you'll find mostly on Pacific beaches. This knocker is handmade, and masterfully done; we love that the design is not overly detailed, but instead has the worn-in but classic charm of a coastal town. Our favorite feature is the subtle, smoothed out texture, exactly like finding a scallop shell on the beach, battered from a lifetime of stories at sea. While we shell hunted high and low to determine the maker on this piece - there is an ornate S makers mark on the back - we came up short.
