c1869 Canton de Zurich, Switzerland Tinted Photograph Adolphe Braun Costumes De

A beautiful, and rare, hand tinted photograph by Adolphe Braun which is part of his series Costumes de Suisse from circa 1869. The Canton of Zurich, Switzerland features a finely dressed young lady posing with baskets of vegetables wearing a dress for the area and has a bow in her hair. She has one arm on her thigh holding knitting materials and her hand is grabbing what appears to be a cabbage. The photo card measures approx 8 1/8" x 6 3/8" with the actual image sizing being about 6 1/4" x 4 1/2". I believe the photograph is of French origin and use the albumen silver print technique. Condition: tanning, foxing, spotting and board is wavy from moisture with edge wear.
