The Modern Viola: Repertoire & Techniques  The viola really became established as a primary instrument in the 20th century. This course will provide an overview of the major pieces written for the viola in the 20th & 21st centuries, focusing on the last 50 years. The execution & integration of new & extended techniques will be discussed in detail as they are employed in each piece. The course is open to violists, all string players, as well as composers wanting to learn about repertoire and technical compositional issues relating to the viola.
