large plant-dyed handbound journal: patchwork & plain

I feel a deep satisfaction when a vision in my mind is captured in something tangible I made with my hands. These hemp linen plant-dyed patchwork journals really capture the dye garden at its height of bloom. Preserving color in fabric and then stitching the small pieces back together again to create color combinations is meditative and informative. There are puzzles to solve with size and shape and the subjective decisions of color balance. I am fascinated by what pleases my eyes and what absolutely does not, it almost feels out of my control…  something I can't explain.This is a half size version of my extra-large handbound journal, the spread is as big as a single page in the extra-large journal.
