Learn the basics of Hungarian Matyó embroidery in this 1.5-hour virtual class. Many of us remember the Hungarian embroidered peasant blouses of the hippie era, a unique embroidery style that has come to stand for traditional Hungarian embroidery. Popular worldwide since the early 20th century, Matyó embroidery has roots going back over a thousand years.We will learn the basic stitches and motifs of Matyó embroidery, and practice how to form the peony petal and leaf shapes characteristic of this style.We will stitch a small design I created for this workshop that would work well for a bandana or the front of a blouse. We will learn methods for starting and ending threads, and changing thread colors in a way that makes the back of the embroidery look very nearly identical to the front. This is traditionally considered important for embroidery on garments, and is very useful for an item like a bandana, the back of which is sometimes visible when worn.This class is suitable for more advanc
