Early in his work, Henry Dreyfuss recognized the importance of symbols in communicating more quickly and effectively; for these many years he and his staff collected and codified graphic symbols as they were (and are) used in all walks of life throughout the world, compiling them in this “dictionary” of symbols. Prior to this there existed no universal sourcebook of symbols. This is the Rosetta Stone of symbols—and to prove it, the table of contents is in eighteen languages.
