If you can get up early enough to beat the sunrise and drive south for two hours, just a few miles past Socorro, you'll enter into an entirely new world of birds! When you arrive just before dawn, an atmosphere of anticipation awaits you as thousands and thousands of sandhill cranes and snow geese wake up, ruffle their feathers, squawk, stretch, and settle back again until some unseen message tells them that it's time to lift off. The lift off leaves you open mouthed, gaping at the sky, at the beauty, the multitude, the noise, the fleeting spectacle of it all!
