They spoke about how this fruit would make you strong and brave by simply eating it. I think there's a problem with that logic cause you had to be strong and brave to obtain it. Some say it was a gift from a dragon for giving it respite and kindness as others hunted the beast. I think that the dragonfruit we know now is a person that is boat strong and kind.
