This Leica Lens Hood is a replacement lens hood for the hood that's provided with the Elmar-M 24mm f/3.8, Summilux-M 35mm f/1.4, and Super-Elmar-M f/3.8 lenses. It's a rectangular metal screw-mount lens hood. Lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of the lens. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.
