Beautifully Sgraffitoed Bison

Since he was 15-years-old, Zuni artist Nelson Yatsattie has been carving animals. He told us his favorite part of the process is the Dremel work because he really gets into detail. No truer could that be than in his powerful Bison sculpted from onyx. Just look at all that sgraffito-etching, absolutely stunning. In stone carving, this is often done by etching away a top polished layer to reveal a different color underneath. Endearing eyes are from turquoise inlays. About 4 3/8" long, 1 3/8" wide and 2 3/4" tall.
