Barley Straw, Bulk Bale (makes about 5 bags)

This large bale of Barley Straw is boxed but not bound by twine, making it ready to bag, right out of the box.  It measures roughly 36"x20"x15" and weight varies from about 27 to 36 pounds, based on moisture content. Break this product up into mesh bags and place in areas of high water flow for pond use. Do not place bulk bale in pond...it is too compact and will not work well.  We have Inexpensive Drawstring Bags available that hold about 8 pounds of straw.  On average, this bale of straw will fill about 5 bags. Decomposing Barley Straw can act as a natural water clarifier. Effectiveness is a result of several “natural“ processes that add up to better water quality. Placing the barley in an area of circulation from diffused aeration systems or fountains can dramatically increase effectiveness. Also, it takes about 3 weeks under water for barley straw to begin to work, and it is used up after about 3 months. Therefore, best results are achieved when you set up a rotation. Below is an
