Due Del Monte Rosso "Bordeaux Blend", 2018/2019, Friuli Colli Orientali DOC

A classic Bordeaux blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc from 20-40 year old vines, this wine shows the increasing quality and potential of Friuli as a producer of fine red wines from international varietals. It is deeply colored with aromas of dark wild berries, spice, and a hint of sage meander from the glass and echo on the palate.  The wine is well-structured with gravelly tannins.  A toasty finish from 18-24 months in second use French oak confirms that this wine is a gem from an unexpected place.  Did you know that Merlot is the most widely planted red grape in Friuli, and second only to Pinot Grigio?
