El Pacto - Ojo Gallo Rioja 2021

The El Pacto Ojo Gallo is an atypical blend of red and white grapes. This wine reminisces of the historic "farm wines" of Rioja.  The blend is primarily Garnacha and Viura, but also includes a field blend of Tempranillo, Malvasia, Graciano, Mazuelo, and (I love this) "some unknown varietal". Despite being an aged wine, Ojo de Gallo retains plenty of freshness.  The influence of Garnacha is most noticeable with notes of red fruits, strawberry yogurt and a touch of balsamic.  The white grapes give rise to floral and citrus notes, which forms an unfamiliar yet pleasing combination of aromatic components.  The oak component is present, but delicately applied.
