Fidora Tenuta Civianetta Veneto Bianco "Amphora" 2020

The production methods employed in this wine pay homage to the winemaking traditions of the ancient Romans and Etruscans.  Fermentation take place in amphora, which are large terracotta vessels that are buried in the ground to moderate temperature.  After fermentation, the juice is left on the skins for 4 months. Then it is bottled unfiltered with sediment that will settle at the bottom of the bottle.  This "orange wine" from 100% Pinot Grigio is a "natural" wine by all definitions.  It is also certified by Demeter as Biodynamic.  The floral characteristics of the Pinot Grigio with slightly oxidized notes that are the Hallmark of wines produced in the "natural" style.  Still this wine stood out in a lineup of 5 orange wines as the best example, and certainly, the most interesting.
