Davidson Clan Ancient Tartan Kilt
Clan Davidson, also known as Clan Dhai, is a proud Highland clan with several origin traditions. Some sources link the Davidsons to Gilliecattan Mhor, an early chief of Clan Chattan, while others trace descent from David, son of Muriach, parson of Kingussie. Another tradition connects the clan to David Dubh of Clan Comyn. The Davidsons were key members of the Chattan Confederation. In 1370, the clan suffered heavy losses at the Battle of Invernahavon during a dispute with Clan Macpherson. The Davidsons also fought at the Battle of the North Inch (1396) and the Battle of Harlaw (1411) where Provost Robert Davidson of Aberdeen died. The family later established themselves at Tulloch Castle, becoming the clan seat. By the 18th century, many Davidsons were involved in the Jacobite risings and later settled in North Carolina, with descendants like General William Lee Davidson playing key roles in the American Revolutionary War.
