Waltz of Trunk and Bough (original oil painting)
Description: I originally captured the image that inspired this painting while hiking with my son this past autumn. The sharp angle of the late afternoon sunlight created a golden hue on the prairie at the edge of this oak savanna. As light streamed through the forest, I stood for a moment frozen as it appeared two wise old trees were locked in an eternal waltz. The scene reminded me of the following poem by Alfred Lord Tennyson (1809-1897), which also inspired the title of this piece:"The Oak" Live thy Life,Young and old,Like yon oak,Bright in spring,Living gold;Summer-richThen; and thenAutumn-changedSoberer-huedGold again. All his leavesFall’n at length,Look, he stands,Trunk and boughNaked strength.
