Aeʻo Have you ever gazed at a loʻi (wetland cultivation) or muliwai (where wai and kai meet) and saw two legs that were wīwī (skinny) and pink?  The iconic slender legs belong to the Aeʻo, Hawaiian Stilt, Himantopus mexicanus knudseni.  The Aeʻo are a sleek white and black in color with a long and thin black bill.  These beautiful birds are found in the low wetlands of ka pae ʻāina o Hawaiʻi except for Kahoʻolawe.  Yet, their homes are being threatened like many of our other waterbirds.  Threatened by things such as; predators - native (ʻaukuʻu and pueo) and non-native (cats, cattle egrets, dogs, mongoose) species, habitat loss, invasive plants, climate change and ultimately humans.  The combination of these threats makes the Aeʻo an endangered bird.  What can we do to help?  How can we save our endangered Aeʻo?  Check out DLNR Hawaiʻi for more information.  Features 100% Organic Cotton GOTS Certified Keiki Fit This 100% certified organic cotton shirt is super soft and a great everyd
