Swedish M90 "Splinter" Field Shirt
Swedish M90 camouflage originally began its life as vehicle camouflage developed by the Försvarets forskningsanstalt (FOA) in the 1970’s. With solid colorways becoming rather dated by the late 1980s, Sweden decided to adapt its FOA camouflage for use amongst its personnel as M90. Designed to hide Sweden’s planes and tanks from the aerial and satellite reconnaissance of the late Soviet Union, it was especially useful in hiding amongst Sweden’s forest and tundra. And since most people aren’t as large as a tank (unlike your average American), the Swedes decided to scale it down by a proportion of 1:66. The result? An uncharacteristically clean camouflage. With its hard lines and geometric patterning, it’s hard to believe this pattern was originally developed in the late 70s.
