Florine Démosthène depicts suspended figures using multimedia collages of marbled mylar on paper with the Black female body as a vessel of collective experience. The figures, with their glittering marble-like skin, are frozen in the midst of a metamorphosis. We love the way her work encourages viewers to consider bodily transformation and regeneration. This work and others by her invites the viewer into an almost science-fiction like dimension where Black female heroines are paramount.
