Thermo-Electric Blunt Tips

Is it number of cycles/parts tested, or are their additional factors that contribute to tip life? Because of many variables, it would be difficult to predict the lifespan of these electro-mechanical-thermal parts.  The heated, threaded tips should be changed when they appear misshaped or a dramatic change in readings.   Most often, if readings shift unexpectedly, the threaded tips need to be tightened or replaced. What would govern the type of tip shape that would be preferable for a specific operation?
