Audubon Society Carolina Turtle Dove Plate
Alfred Meakin National Audubon Society Plate, hand painted, featuring two Carolina Turtle Doves sitting on a branch amidst white magnolia flowers. The colors and details are gorgeous. It has a slightly ribbed edge and an embossed flower pattern along the rim. There is a makers mark on the back reading, Alfred Meakin, with a crown insignia. Below reads "Plate Number 17, Columbia Carolinensis. Reproduced From The Elephant Folio Edition of Audubons Birds Of America, Endorsed by National Audubon Society New York, Carolina Turtle Dove" Meakin Audubon plates are getting harder to find in perfect condition, as they stopped production in 1941. This plate is in excellent condition. It most likely hung on a wall or was in a display shelf and not used for dining. There are 3 tiny marks on the back where stilts were used to hold the plate during the glaze firing to get a nice finish on the bottom. *Vintage items may have wear, production imperfections, or aging. They were preowned and loved. Ple
