Rhubarb Root & Rhizome Whole (Rheum palmatum), known in Traditional Chinese Medicine as Da Huang (大黄), is a bitter, cold, and strongly purgative herb traditionally used to clear heat, purge accumulations, invigorate blood, and eliminate toxins. Harvested from the thick, fibrous root and rhizome of the Chinese rhubarb plant, these whole pieces retain their deep reddish-brown color, strong aroma, and potent action. In TCM, Da Huang is used to stimulate bowel movements and relieve constipation, particularly in cases involving heat and stagnation in the intestines. Beyond its purgative function, it is also used to clear damp-heat, cool the blood, and break up blood stasis, making it useful for treating conditions like abdominal fullness, jaundice, painful swellings, and traumatic injuries. When decocted, Rhubarb Root & Rhizome produces a strong, bitter infusion with a fast-acting effect on the digestive system. It is often paired with herbs such as Mang Xiao (Mirabilite), Huang Lia
