The textile is meticulously handwoven using a tradition Guatemala backstrap loom. This is then fastened onto premium vegetable tanned leather that is hand-tied using a fine leather lace around the border of the belt. All of our belts only wear better over time as the natural fit forms to all waist sizes for both men and women. Behind the Name: Kakaw is the Mayan word for the cacao bean.  The cocao bean was a sacred food of divine origin used in spiritual ceremonies, traded as a form of currency, and a symbol of status, live and fertility. The bitter, spiced drink was consumed during rituals to connect with the spiritual realm and achieve heightened awareness. It was also used in everyday life and for special occasions like marriages, and the beans were a valuable trade item.
