Phillips, born in Wayne, Pennsylvania, hails from a family with a deep fine arts tradition—her great-great-grandfather founded Philadelphia's Newman Galleries in 1865, making her the fifth generation in the arts. A 1983 graduate of The Hussian School of Art, Elise began her career as a successful illustrator and graphic designer before studying at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. She has maintained a studio in Elverson, Pennsylvania, drawing inspiration from the local countryside, Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket, Chesapeake Bay, and the Maine coast. An award-winning artist, Elise is a signature member of the Philadelphia Watercolor Society, American Impressionist Society, Oil Painters of America, and the Mid Atlantic Plein Air Painters.
