Milly Morrocan Rug

A Moroccan rug is a work of art for your floor. It’s an investment that retains its value and charm. This beautiful rug was handmade by two wonderful artisans- Fatima and Saddia who both live in a town called Tizi Nisli, Morocco - population of about 10,000. They often work together on rugs and have a very simple loom in each of their homes. They weave often for work and take care of their families when they are not weaving. In general, weaving is the second priority and they work a few hours a day or whenever they have stolen moments to themselves. First priority is children and food. How is each rug made? Once our weaver has created the rug’s spine at the cooperative, she takes it home and re-assembles it on her own loom.  She then rolls the bundles of wool into balls to prepare for the hand knotting process. The rug is started upsidedown and the weaver sits behind the loom to create the design in mirrored-image. Depending on the design for the rug, the weaver may follow a simple ha
