Northern Lights Over Lone Rock, Lake Powell

The Story Behind The Shot I think one of the things I enjoy the most about photography is the chance to be in the right place at the right time and purely by luck witness something truly amazing and rare. Dani and I found ourselves in Page AZ (Lake Powell) looking to capture some panoramic images for some more mural commissions and heard that there was a chance of seeing some northern lights down in the southern states. The night the nation was buzzing about it we had a healthy dose of overcast clouds in northern Arizona and couldn't see anything. The next day we wondered if there would be any residual solar flare activity and decided to roll the dice on Lone Rock (west part of Lake Powell across the border in southern Utah). The universe was on our side as we made our way to the Lone Rock beach as Dani started noticing some faint but distinct glowing in the sky to the north.
