Ethel Franklin Betts Baines (1877-1959) was a prominent American illustrator during The Golden Age of Illustration. Her older sister, Anna Whelan Betts, also became a notable illustrator. Following in the footsteps of many artists of her era, Ethel received her artistic education under the guidance of the great Howard Pyle. Just like her esteemed contemporaries, such as Jessie Willcox Smith and Sarah Stilwell Weber, she created magazine covers for the prominent publications of her time.
