Born to John L. and Louise Clasper Rumely, she inherited a lineage famous for early farm equipment and her mother's own artistry, yet she carved her own path in the realm of art. Her journey began in 1939 when she enrolled in New York's High School of Music and Art. Her parents later relocated to Kerhonkson in upstate New York, where her mother continued to illustrate for various creative projects.
