Circa 1820-40s, 14k, Italy. This early nineteenth-century Etruscanate bracelet features enchanting carvings in lava. The chic architectural revival look is underscored by beautifully hued organic colors. Italian stone cutters began producing fine lava carvings for use in souvenir jewelry in the early 1800s. This type of jewelry was very popular with travelers on “The Grand Tour” and became a worldwide sensation. A sublime example of the genre, this 200-year-old bracelet is a remarkable find.
