The Hog Island Fig is a relatively rare fig variety that grows abundantly on the barrier islands of Virginia. This fig was originally discovered there, although it is thought to have been brought to the Islands by the British at some point. It's also known as the Grover Cleveland fig, as he was especially keen on eating them when visiting the islands on a hunting trip. Hog Island Figs are small to medium-sized figs with a beautiful caramel colored skin. As the figs ripen, the skin will become more dark grown. The inside reveals a sugary red pulp with a characteristic sugar fig flavor. These are perfect for a wide variety of desserts including preserves, jellies, and more!
