String of Bananas: With its fast-growing branches and small banana-shaped leaves, this curious succulent is perfect for hanging in baskets or draping over window sills. Requiring nothing more than bright light and an occasional watering, the String of Bananas is certainly ‘ap-peal-ing’ to beginner lazy gardeners! Plant Care Notes Closely related to Senecio Radicans (String of Fishhooks), Glauca stems can reach around 3-6 feet long! String of Bananas loves bright, indirect light, but they can also tolerate some direct sun for a few hours. Just be careful not to overdo it—too much sun can cause sunburn (and no one likes a crispy banana).  Like most succulents, they need great drainage and infrequent water to prevent rot. Pick containers with drainage holes and use well-draining cactus and succulent soil with 50% to 70% mineral grit such as coarse sand, pumice, or perlite. Water deeply enough for water to run out the drainage hole, then wait for the soil to fully dry before watering again. Propagation is a breeze! Simply snip a healthy vine, let it callous over for a day or two, and plant it in fresh soil while coiling any excess trailing stems on top of the soil. With a little time, you’ll have a new string of bananas to enjoy or share with a friend.
