A modern lithograph on Arches paper titled “Friendship” by Alexander Calder. From the Flying Colors Collection for Braniff Airlines. Original painting was created in 1974 and the published print in 1975. Signed and dated in the plate lower right corner with the embossed stamp. Alexander Calder and Braniff International Airways collaborated on multiple projects, including the painting of a Douglas DC-8-62 airliner. Calder also created fiberglass models with hand-painted designs for the DC-8 plane. Five of these models were displayed at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York City in 1973. In 1975, Calder and Braniff collaborated again to commemorate the United States Bicentennial. Calder painted a Boeing 727-200 with red, white, and blue ribbon-like strokes. This lithograph was also part of the collaborations in the 1970s and a celebration of modernism. From a private collection. Dimensions: 31.5”h x 35.75”w x 1”d (framed).
