The Lord and The Light

"We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost." (The First Article of Faith) After my sister died I felt very closed off toward Heavenly Father.  It was hard to pray because I felt hurt that despite mine and other’s fervent, heartfelt, faith-filled pleadings, my sister still died.  I was confused about prayer and God’s will.  It shook my soul and left me with question and uncertainty in my relationship with Heavenly Father. As I continued to study and learn I came to understand that we are not commanded to have faith in the blessings but in the Giver of the blessings.  The first doctrine of the gospel is, “Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.”  In the midst of our heartache it may be tempting to think that God has not fulfilled His promises, but the very act of sending His Son was the fulfillment of all promises.
