The Large Exo Lamp in Oat by sculptor and designer Abid Javed is a sculptural ceramic table lamp with a textured finish. The lamp is a coiled hollow form sculpted in stoneware clay, then dried and high-fired before assembly as a lamp. The sculpture was then wired with a brass lamp base for E26 light bulbs, and features an in-line switch. Abid's design was based on an existing sculpture design which, inspired by subdued cave lighting, Abid transformed into a light source. With a background in Molecular Biology, Abid works in a range of scale and clay bodies, carefully crafting each piece to bring a biological narrative or an idea to the forefront - emphasis being on form and materiality.
