Sometimes we get stuck in thinking that “good” art is defined by how accurately we can render something. But that is not art. At least, that is such a narrow definition of what art can be. When I saw a Monet painting for the very first time, I *felt* it. It resonated within me, I couldn't believe the energy and movement that was so obvious up close but as you backed away further and further from the painting, it softened into something else completely. What a life-changing lesson! That we can capture a moment of time with gestural movement, imperfect lines, and bold uses of color. That art can capture what it is to *experience* something, (a sunset, or a water reflection) instead of a mere depiction of it. It helped me realize that you can either paint in nouns or verbs, and Monet paints in verbs. In this Monet digital course, I am going to break down how to approach painting in an impressionistic style. By stealing tools and techniques from one of the greats and recreating his work,
