Soda-firing is the process in which sodium bicarbonate is dissolved and introduced into a hot kiln. Once inside, the soda immediately vaporizes and interact with the pieces, creating beautiful flashes of color and glaze. This is a multi-day process and the kiln fires to cone 10 (approx. 2350 degrees F). As the flames and soda move around the pottery, it creates unique patterns based on where it is placed in the kiln and how much exposure to the fire and soda.
