Shumard Oak

Shumard Oak is one of the largest-growing red oaks we offer. The young bark of the Shumard Oak is light grey,very smooth. The bark will darken and develop ridges as it ages and occasionally white splotches on the bark. Leaves appear in early spring, remain green until fall when they change to a brilliant RED to brown before dropping for winter. The acorns of the Shumard Oak provide food for various songbirds, game birds such as wild turkey and quail, waterfowl, deer and squirrels.
