Thisexpression started it all for the Caetano family,and a tradition of excellence has followed. Eachbottle is hand wrapped in Da Palha, meaning adried banana leaf. In the early 20th century, the roads consistedof rugged terrain, and packages were hauled bymules. If one were to slip, all bottles were lost.Dried banana leaves provided an all-naturalpackaging that could bare the elements. Thedetails truly matter. Da Palha spends its first year after distillation inFrench Oak barrels. French oak softens the spiritsand gives the distillate a silkier mouthfeel;a feeling of elegance. After the first year, theslightly aged, now golden spirit, spends itslast year in Brazilian Balsamo. Balsamo gracesthe young cachaça with a peppery, herbaceousaroma along with a slight bitterness to add moredepth in flavor. Remarkable balance is struck bythe variance of wood in its aging. En
