Agatha Christie’s novel And Then There Were None is the best-selling crime novel of all time. Why? Because the backbone of the story is the personal internal battle we all face as human beings between social responsibility and personal guilt. We have all done something we later regretted; this is often followed by a feeling that we must fix it by doing the right thing, even when it is uncomfortable for us or if someone could be hurt by it---aka our guilty conscience. This is the internal battle for each of the eight characters in Christie’s suspenseful novel. Written as a murder mystery, Christie places eight people on an island, by invitation only.
