Writing Your Life: An Introduction To Memoir Writing ~ with Dr. Diane Goodman
We are living in the age of the memoir and everyone has a story that deserves to be told. In this workshop, Dr. Goodman will provide you with the tools for writing your story by exploring the personal essay and memoir genres through lecture, selected readings, discussion, and prompts/exercises. Topics will include narrative strategies, how to select material, how to structure material, how to incorporate literary devices (ie-metaphor, imagery, dialogue, setting...). You will leave with enough of a start to begin writing your personal essay or memoir, and examples to help guide you. *Diane Goodman holds a PhD in English, in addition to an MFA in Creative Writing, and has been teaching literature and writing at the university level for over 25 years. Dr. Goodman’s publications include “A History of Modern Poetry” (EBSCO), as well as poems and essays which have appeared in many literary journals and national magazines.
