Cherry End Table
An early 19th-century American work table in cherry with beautifully matched bird’s-eye maple drawer fronts. This piece is a fine example of rural craftsmanship from the 1830s–1840s, likely produced in New England. The turned legs display classic ring-and-ball shaping, tapering down to small peg feet that are consistent with the Federal and Sheraton transition period. The drawer faces stand out with their light-toned, figured bird’s-eye maple, contrasting elegantly against the deeper cherry case. Both drawers are hand-dovetailed, fitted with umber-painted wooden knobs. The table maintains its original surface, now mellowed to a soft, warm patina that highlights the natural grain and wear from generations of use. Well-proportioned and functional, it offers a quiet sophistication rooted in utility and simple beauty.
