In September 2023, her life changed when her parents started noticing that things were a little off. Her skin tone was becoming more pale and she started having a little less energy. In just a couple weeks, she went from playing an entire soccer game to asking her coach to sit out before the game even started. After some family members mentioned her color change, they decided she needed to see her doctor. They thought the doctor would say, “take this medicine and she will be back to normal.” Instead, they sent Emery to do a full set of blood work. Her mom called the doctor's office to get the results and was told that they needed to get her to Primary Children’s ER as soon as possible and that she needed a blood transfusion.
